Abstract: Environmental contaminants have been monitored annually in Sweden since the middle of the 60’ies. At the same time, health status and population development of seals, birds and fish have been recorded at the Swedish Museum of Natural History. The aim of the presentation is to link the trends of various contaminants and observed effects. It is clearly shown that efforts to ban and reduce discharges of persistent and highly toxic substances have turned the previous decline of several top-predators to positive population trends.
